CLIENT CASE STUDY
Updating a visual identity system, building a rapid donor-centric website, and developing a custom operations management portal and volunteer mobile app.
Zero Hunger is a community-driven charity in the UK focusing on environmental sustainability and social relief. Unlike traditional food banks, Zero Hunger focuses on rescuing fresh surplus food from local supermarkets (such as Marks & Spencer and Lidl) that would otherwise go to waste, and distributing it directly to families in need.
Their growing success created operational challenges. Managing collection stores, scheduling pickups, tracking volunteers, coordinating public outreach calendars, and logging statistics was handled with disorganised spreadsheets and emails. Their web presence was also built on a sluggish template.
FlushMedia was commissioned to lead a complete digital transformation across three main deliverables: brand visuals, a custom website, and a bespoke business management platform with a volunteer mobile app.
Brand colours, fonts, asset guidelines, and logo variations to project trust and authority.
A stunning new web presence at www.zero.flushmedia.co.uk containing outreach schedules and donor channels.
A bespoke operations manager portal and native volunteer app to handle collection logistics, shift sign-ups, and automated reporting.
We modernized Zero Hunger's brand identity with a clean design ruleset and high-quality logo configurations.
To establish a credible voice capable of partnering with major national chains, the charity required a premium layout ruleset. We overhauled their identity, choosing a vibrant gold-yellow colour and deep slate as the base colours, accented with fresh leafy greens.
We implemented the display font 'Outfit' and the body font 'Inter' to ensure visual consistency across digital screens and physical print flyers. The layout features precise grids, minimal margins, and strong clear-space constraints around brand marks.
Our rebranding package delivered modular vector layouts for diverse uses, ensuring the brand scales from volunteer high-vis vests and van wraps to social media headers and app icons.

We engineered a fast, responsive, and SEO-optimised website to drive public outreaches and secure online donations.
The public portal serves as the primary gateway for volunteers signing up and local donors offering financial support. We built a beautiful web infrastructure optimised for maximum mobile loading speed and organic search rankings.
The design features intuitive calendars highlighting outreaches (like the Hook Food Outreach at Elizabeth Hall) and calls to action. By incorporating custom media widgets and pre-rendered layouts, we achieved a Google PageSpeed rating of 100/100, which has dramatically lowered user drop-off.
The clean landing page outlining Zero Hunger's mission with direct links to donate, volunteer, and outreach calendars.
Interactive page indexing visual content for primary pillars: education kits, nutritional programs, and empowerment workshops.
We replaced legacy spreadsheets with a secure database portal and a custom mobile application for real-time volunteer coordination.
To scale daily operations, FlushMedia engineered a custom, secure operations dashboard. The web system acts as the central brain of the organisation, providing managers with precise control over logistical pipelines.
The platform includes:
To connect drivers on the road, we developed a fast, secure mobile app for volunteers. It links directly to the main operations portal, allowing teams to manage tasks and coordinates dynamically.
Volunteers log in to view their active collection tasks, navigate to pickup stores, check contact details, sign up for community outreach distributions, and log quantities in real-time. It includes lone worker safety monitoring features for late-night pickups.
Below are the real-world operational screens engineered for Zero Hunger administrators.
The user interface was styled for speed, allowing personnel to assign collection routes, check store parameters, and verify volunteer check-ins with one click.
Additionally, the solution delivers full Version Control, a Data Backup Utility, and a Secure System Update Utility to safeguard charity operations and automate system maintenance.
Real-time metrics, collection stats, and calendar summaries.
Tonnage tracking, automated reports, and database logs.
Version tracking, database backups, and secure updates.
The custom-built volunteer mobile application bridges the gap between administrators and on-the-ground drivers. Developed with a high-contrast dark theme, it is optimised for nighttime pickups and visibility in low-light conditions.
Volunteers can log in secure PIN codes, view their next collection schedules, check GPS routing coordinates to Marks & Spencer or Lidl, call emergency store managers directly through API integrations, and submit completed tonnage details immediately.
Includes active check-in buttons that automatically alert operations control if a volunteer does not complete a schedule on time, keeping drivers safe.
